Sugar Crushing Season

Cane Growers

Sunday 4 June 2017

The 2017 sugar crushing season has started in Northern Queensland. The timing was perfect for a series of grower meetings organised by Landmark where the benefits of Advantage Agriculture’s high performance granular soil amendments for cane were explained.

Andrew Olley, the Technical Manager at Advantage Agriculture talked about the high reactivity of Ozcal granular lime meaning it can be applied at greatly reduced rates, compared to Aglime.  Ozcal applied as a small annual application allows the acidification occurring from Nitrogen fertilisers to be counteracted. Therefore optimal soil pH is maintained for growth from plant and through the ratoon cycles.

In addition, there is no need to rely on contractors as Ozcal can be applied using a growers’ own fertiliser application equipment. It can be applied as a straight or blended with NPKS fertiliser for a one shot application.

Andrew’s presentations also included a rundown on OzcalMag granular dolomite and Ozgyp granular gypsum.
